We have two ways of producing power. They either come from non-renewable sources or renewable sources. Based on their names, you may have guessed it already! The first one runs out, the latter doesn’t. Which of these energy sources do you think are non-renewable and which ones are renewable? Click the GIF to find out!

Solar energy is energy that comes from the sun. It is the most abundant renewable energy source on Earth. Can you guess why? You guessed it right! It’s because no matter what happens, we cannot run out of light coming from the sun! In our classes, both teachers and students had so much fun exploring how powerful the sun is by giving examples on how it helps people get by every day.

Catching the Light

Have you ever seen black glass boards on rooftops? They are called solar panels and are meant to catch the light from the sun! Nowadays, we use solar panels to charge our batteries, warm our houses in winter and even turn on our lights at home. By using solar energy, we are becoming more environment-friendly because it doesn’t release pollutants that harm the air. Our Grade 5 students were thrilled to become little scientists as they discovered how solar panels work.

你有见过屋顶上的黑色玻璃板吗？它们被称为太阳能板，用来捕捉太阳的光线，把太阳能转换成我们能使用的能源。如今，我们使用太阳能板来给电池充电，温暖房屋，为每个家庭提供照明。通过使用太阳能，我们变得更加环保，因为它不会释放危害空气的污染物。正是因为了解了太阳能板的工作原理，五年级孩子们都特别兴奋地想成为小科学家呢。

The whole unit gave the students the opportunity to explore not only solar energy, but also other types of renewable energy. Through this, they were able to weigh on the positives and negatives and shared their views on which type of energy they preferred and why. By covering this topic, we hope to prepare them to live in and create a better world for everyone.

孩子们在整个单元的学习中不仅有机会探索太阳能，也了解了其他类型的可再生能源。通过这一单元，孩子们了解到各种能源的优缺点，并分享他们喜欢的能源类型以及原因。通过学习这个主题，我们希望孩子们能为创造一个更美好的世界做好准备。
