Exploring New Things探索新鲜事物

What comes to your mind when you see the ocean? You might think of going swimming, going sailing, or going surfing. However, our second-grade students learned to wander the different aspects of the sea. One of the fascinating things they can find by the sea is the tide pool. But what is a tide pool? As curious as they are, they learned and discovered what a tide pool is, how it is formed, and fascinating facts about the sea animals that inhabit them. 

当你看到大海时，你会联想到什么呢？你可能会想到去游泳、航海或是去冲浪。而我们二年级的孩子们在CSC课上跟随着老师“徜徉”于大海的方方面面。最让孩子们着迷的要属潮池了，但什么是潮池呢？出于好奇，他们了解并发现了什么是潮池、潮池是如何形成的，以及居住在潮池中的海洋动物的有趣知识。

In addition to the science behind tide pools, the students read and recited poems about the creatures living in these unique habitats. They explored rhymes and repetitions in poetry, finding joy in saying the rhyming words and identifying repeated phrases.

除了潮池背后的科学知识，学生们还朗读和背诵了有关生活在这些独特栖息地的生物的诗歌。他们探索了诗歌中的押韵和重复，在说出押韵的单词和找出重复的短语中发现乐趣。

Inspired by the book "Ocean Soup: Tide Pool Poems," the students eagerly anticipated a culinary adventure. They knew that their story time would lead to yummy time. They connected their story time with a delicious cooking project, preparing garlic bread shaped like their favorite sea creatures. This bread represented the animals in the tide pool, while the "Ocean Soup" they made symbolized the tide pool itself.

读完了"Ocean Soup: Tide Pool Poems"，孩子们迫不及待地想要开始一场烹饪探险，因为他们知道“故事时间”会带他们进入“美味时间”。他们将故事与美味联系起来：用最喜欢的海洋生物造型的蒜香面包来代表潮池中的生物，用“Ocean Soup”来代表潮池。

Cultivating Love for Cooking培养烹饪爱好

On cooking day, the students showcased their culinary skills developed over the semester. They confidently sifted flour, made dough, kneaded it, and shaped it into sea creatures. They also showed their mastery in using the cookie cutters as they carefully crafted sea animal shapes for their ocean soup. Each student added ingredients to the soup with precision and care. They became excited to learn that they were going to eat garlic bread with soup and they’re looking forward to tasting their creations.

在CSC实操课上，孩子们展示了他们在一学期中培养的烹饪技能。他们胸有成竹地筛面粉、和面团、揉面团，并将面团捏成海洋生物的形状。他们还展示了如何熟练使用饼干切割器，为Ocean Soup精心制作海洋动物造型，最后每个孩子都有机会将食材小心地加到海鲜汤中。当蒜香面包和海鲜汤做成后，每个孩子都变得非常兴奋，期待着品尝自己的作品。

As they enjoyed their warm garlic bread and hot savory ocean soup, their faces lit up with joy and satisfaction. This culinary project was a delightful and educational experience, connecting their scientific and poetic discoveries with hands-on cooking.

当他们品尝着热乎乎的蒜香面包和热腾腾的海洋汤时，脸上洋溢着喜悦和满足。这次CSC的烹饪课堂仍是一次令人愉快的教育体验，将他们的科学和诗歌发现与动手烹饪联系在了一起。

Expanding Culinary Achievement 扩展烹饪成就

Throughout the semester, our second graders have made remarkable pace in their culinary skills. They have learned essential techniques such as measuring ingredients, mixing and kneading dough, using kitchen tools safely, and following recipes. Their creativity shone through as they shaped dough into various sea creatures and prepared delicious, nutritious meals.

本学期，二年级孩子在烹饪技能方面取得了显著进步。他们学会了估量配料、揉制面团、安全使用厨房用具以及遵循食谱等基本技巧。他们能将面团捏成各种栩栩如生的海洋生物，这足以体现孩子们的创造力。

As the school year comes to an end, we are proud of the culinary expertise our students have gained. These skills not only foster a love for cooking, but also teach valuable lessons in patience, precision, and teamwork. We are excited to see how they will use these skills over the summer holidays and beyond. We are looking forward to more exciting learning adventures in our next CSC class! Have a wonderful summer!
