“We are the world. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start giving.” These famous words have echoed for decades, carrying a significant message of love, care, hope, and unity. The song has continued to resonate with people around the world as it emphasizes every individual as part of a global community; it encourages us to set aside our differences and come together to face and take action on the world’s problems, such as poverty, hunger, environmental issues, disease and so on. 

“四海皆一家。我们都是地球的孩子。创造美好的未来要靠我们，所以让我们开始奉献自己。”这首唱响全球的歌曲已传唱了三十多年，歌词中传递着爱、关怀、希望和团结等重要信息。这首歌让世界各地的人们都产生了共鸣，因为它强调每个人都是地球上的一员；它鼓励我们放下分歧，团结起来一起面对并采取行动来应对世界上出现的贫困、饥饿、环境污染、疾病等各种问题。

Little Minds at Work 运用小智慧

But how can our preschoolers take part in these noble causes? Aren’t they too young to tackle such weighty issues? No, they’re not! Despite the age and limited life experience, you’ll be surprised what the young ones can do. At this stage, children are surprisingly insightful. They are capable of learning things almost instantaneously. In fact, our students recently validated their exceptional abilities when they discussed Earth Day in CSC class. Our students from Big Baby classes excitedly shared their insights on environmental protection and caring for the earth. Here are some of the answers that our students shared:

Question 1: How do you save the earth?

● Throw the garbage in the proper places. 

● Save water and electricity. 

● Reuse, recycle, and reduce.

Question 2: How do you care for the earth? 

● Don’t waste food. 

● Grow plants or trees in the garden.

● Go to school on foot or by bike, not by car. 

学龄前的孩子们该如何参与到这些伟大的公共事业中呢？他们会因为年纪太小而无法参与吗？不，他们是可以的！尽管孩子们年龄尚小，且生活经验有限，但他们仍然能带给我们惊喜。因为在这个年龄段，他们有着令人惊讶的洞察力，也能够快速地学习新事物。在近期的CSC课程中，孩子们就展现出了他们不俗的能力。当我们在讨论地球日时，最大班的孩子们很兴奋地分享了他们对保护环境和保护地球的见解，让我们一起看一下孩子们的分享吧：

● 将垃圾丢在正确的地方。

● 节约用水和用电。

● 循环使用、回收和减少资源浪费。

问题二：你是如何爱护地球的？

● 不浪费食物。

● 在花园里种植植物和树木。

● 步行或骑自行车去学校，但不要开车。

保护地球，从我做起

Hearing their thoughts, we learn never to underestimate the power of our students’ minds and the might of their innocent voices. Our students understand the value of saving and caring for the earth, and they should take action not just on Earth Day but every day.

Raising Awareness提高环保意识

As part of our mission to raise environmental awareness, we emphasize proper waste management through recycling, reusing, and reducing. Students learned to segregate garbage through a simple activity during our CSC enrichment session. Each team was given a set of pictures and sorted them into proper recycling bins. 

我们通过回收、循环使用和减少垃圾来强调垃圾管理的意识，以提高孩子们对环境保护的使命感。在CSC课程中，孩子们跟着老师一起学习了如何进行垃圾分类，同时利用图片进行了练习，增强了垃圾分类的意识。

Over and above that, students also learned to reduce waste. How? By making compost. Yes! You heard it right. We made compost in our CSC kitchen. But this is not a regular compost; it’s edible, and students love it! 

除此之外，孩子们还学会了如何减少垃圾。是怎么做的呢？通过“制作堆肥”。是的！你没听错。我们在CSC的教室里也制作了“肥料”呢。但这可不是普通的“肥料”哦，它是深受孩子们喜爱的、可食用的饼干！

Making Compost Cookies 制作肥料饼干

You might be wondering what compost cookies are. They are also known as “garbage cookies” or “kitchen sink cookies.” Compost? Garbage? It may sound weird to anyone who has no clue what ingredients we use to make such a delicious treat. They are easy and comforting to make because you can throw in any treats. So, instead of buying new ingredients, we taught our students to pull out any leftovers from their pantry –cereals, oats, crackers, chips, pretzels, or chocolate chips. It could be anything as long as it’s a combination of sweet and salty snacks.  This is one of the best ways to reduce food wastage. 

什么是“肥料饼干”？它们也被称为“垃圾饼干”或“厨余饼干”。是不是听起来很不可思议？但当你了解它的制作方法后就会觉得很容易了，因为你可以加入任何零食。所以，孩子们可以从他们的食品柜中拿出任意剩余的零食，像谷物、燕麦、饼干、薯片、椒盐脆饼或巧克力片，无论是甜的还是咸的，只需要把这些零食混合在一起。这也是减少食物浪费的最佳方法之一。

Enhancing Life Skills 提高生活技能

Undeniably, cooking has become a favorite activity for our students. They create tasty meals, learn new recipes, and have fun in the process. It’s not just about the food or snacks they make; it’s also about learning essential skills while learning important values in life. As early as now, our preschoolers are learning to be responsible through their actions and make contributions, no matter how small, to overcome global issues every day and everywhere. 

烹饪已经逐渐成为孩子们最喜爱的活动之一。他们制作美味的餐点、学习新的烹饪技能并在过程中收获快乐。CSC课程中，孩子们品尝到了亲手制做的美味食物，提高了自己的生活技能，也增强了自己的责任意识，通过他们微小的行动为保护地球贡献一份力量。
