Winter Solstice signifies the advent of winter, yet our students can still feel the remnants of the fall season. Learning about the seasons gives our students a better understanding of the passage of time and how things change from the weather to clothing and even food! Read through to learn more about how science, reading, and cooking converge in our CSC class. 

冬至意味着寒冷降至，但今年的初冬仍然能感受到秋天的味道。通过对四季的学习可以让学生们更好地感受时间的流逝，以及天气、服装，甚至季节性食物的变化！在CSC课堂上，我们结合自然科学、故事分享和美食烹饪等多学科内容，让孩子们感受了不同季节的特点。

本学期的第三个主题——秋天

Falling for Fall飘落的秋天

Our students fell in love with the season of colors: red, orange, yellow, and brown. The leaves are changing and falling; nature is waving and smiling. Although autumn comes every year, the children enjoy exploring this beautiful phenomenon. The teacher led them on a virtual tour of a farm as it is “Harvest Time.” As we discussed various crops people harvest, students learned more about pumpkins – their sizes, shapes, and parts. Students did a simple labeling activity to reinforce this discovery. 

秋天多姿多彩的色彩让孩子们也爱上了这个美丽的季节，无论是红色、橙色还是黄色和棕色都让大家沉浸其中。秋天，树叶的颜色在改变，树叶也在掉落；但大自然却在对我们挥手微笑。虽然每年的秋天都会准时到来，但孩子们仍然喜欢探索每个季节不同的美丽景象。秋天是一个收获的季节，农场里的蔬菜和水果都成熟了，因此这个主题的CSC课堂上，孩子们来到了农场探索秋天。老师在CSC的教室里打造出一个“农场”，带领孩子们通过参观农场，了解不同的蔬菜和水果。通过讨论各种蔬果，学生们更加深入地了解了其中的一种蔬菜——南瓜，学习了南瓜有不同的大小、形状和各个部位的名称。接着，孩子们又通过一个简单的活动来标记和强化学习内容。

Tell the Tale欢乐的故事分享

From fall to harvesting pumpkins, we linked this lesson to reading a delightful story, The Roll Away Pumpkin. Junia Wonders and Daniela Volpari tell the tale of Marla Little running down the hill, yelling “Help!” while chasing her giant pumpkin through the town. Students enjoyed the repeated words and sounds, such as “Watch out!” “Hurry!” and “What shall I do?” Excitement filled the classroom as they all chanted these words together. As the story continued, they all hoped that Marla Little could still catch her pumpkin. Everyone was glad to see how the story ended. 

从秋天到丰收，我们还一起阅读了一个令人愉快的故事《滚走南瓜》。Junia Wonders和Daniela Volpari在故事中讲述了Marla Little跑下山，一边大喊“救命！”，一边在镇上追逐她的大南瓜的故事。学生们喜欢一起重复着大喊：“小心！”“快点！” “我该怎么办？”当他们一起说出这些台词时，教室里充满了兴奋的声音。随着故事剧情的展开，孩子们都很希望Marla Little还能抓到她的南瓜。最后，故事中出其不意的结局也让大家回味无穷。

Rolling and Chasing Pumpkins翻滚的南瓜

Comprehension questions were essential to assess our students' understanding of the texts. We’re proud to say that our students can recount the story through simple words and actions. Afterwards, exciting games followed. The students played Roll the Pumpkin to let them experience what Marla Little went through in the story. Their voices and faces could tell they had so much fun and thrilled chasing their rolling pumpkins. All their senses were activated as they learned that the size and shape of an object can affect the motion and force we put on it.  

是否理解问题是评估孩子们理解力的重要手段，看到孩子们可以通过简单的语言和动作来复述这个故事是一件令人感到骄傲的事。紧接着，我们在教室进行了一场激动人心的滚南瓜比赛，让孩子们也能体验Marla Little在故事中的经历。从孩子们时不时爆发出的声音和激动的表情可以看出，他们在游戏时非常开心和兴奋。并且在这项游戏活动中，孩子们也了解到物体的大小和形状会影响物体的移动速度和推动物体的作用力。

翻滚的南瓜给课堂增添了更多乐趣

Wide grins were seen on the students’ faces as they heard the teacher say, “Today, we’re making pumpkin bread pudding.” Students could not contain their excitement as the teacher unraveled the ingredients, such as brown sugar, honey, egg, milk, and many other things. Through this lesson, students also learned and practiced different cooking verbs – whisk, stir, tear and pour. When the discussion was over, the entire class couldn’t wait to complete their kitchen and pumpkin experience.  Individually and as a group – students truly enjoyed their time making, eating, and sharing the food they had. 

当孩子们听见老师宣布：今天，我们要用红糖、蜂蜜、鸡蛋、牛奶制作南瓜面包布丁时，孩子们已无法抑制他们的兴奋。通过课堂，孩子们还认识并练习了各种不同的的烹饪技巧——搅打、搅拌、撕和倒。当讨论结束后，孩子们都迫不及待地想完成南瓜面包布丁。在这次的烹饪课中无论是个人操作，还是集体合作，孩子们都非常享受烹饪的过程及品尝分享美食的时光。
