One of the activities available to St. Bede students each year is WYSE- which stands for World-Wide Youth in Science and Engineering. Since this is an academic activity, it functions differently than most of the other activities in that students compete against other schools. In this competition, students take tests for competency and college readiness in various subjects, including: English, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering Graphics. 

WYSE竞赛（全球青年科学与工程竞赛）是每年可供圣彼得学生参加的活动之一。由于这是一项学术活动，与大多数其他活动不同，圣彼得学生们要与其他学校竞争。在这项比赛中，学生们需要参加各种学科的测试，包括英语、数学、化学、生物、物理、计算机科学和工程图形，以评估他们的能力和大学预备情况。

All schools in the state are divided into one of three sections based on school-enrollment size. St. Bede competes against other schools whose enrollments are also under 300 students. The first tier of the competition is the Regional- Schools in St. Bede’s area are invited to the local community college to compete. There are both individual and team scores. Overall, St. Bede’s team finished the Regional in 1st Place, led in huge part by Kinglee’s Gordon Chen who earned individual 1st Place finishes in both Chemistry and Math. For Math, he was one question away from a perfect score!

This finish helped St. Bede to advance to the next round of the competition, the Sectional. Here, Gordon had another very strong showing, with another 1st Place in Chemistry and 2nd Place in Math. His efforts were a huge reason that St. Bede was able to get 1st Place overall in the Sectional and advance to the final round, the State tournament, which includes every school under 300 students in the state of Illinois.

At this final competition, held on the campus of Eastern Illinois University, St. Bede did very well by placing in 4th in the state. Gordon was the highest finishing St. Bede student in two separate categories. He came in a very close 2nd Place in Chemistry, which is a phenomenal achievement. But that wasn’t outdone by his finish in Math, where he was the top finisher in the state!
