Saint Bede strives to provide excellent educational opportunities for its students across its curriculum. With an increasing focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) in high school and preparing for college, it’s important to find effective ways to help strengthen the capabilities of students as problem-solvers. So this year, St. Bede opened enrollment for students in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC).

圣彼得致力于在不同学科中为学生提供卓越的教育机会。在高中阶段以及为大学升学的过程中，对于STEAM教育（STEAM所代表字母分别为科学、技术、工程、艺术、数学）的关注不断增加，目的就是为了找到更有效的方式，帮助学生提高解决问题的能力。因此，今年圣彼得为学生开放了美国数学竞赛（简称AMC）的报名资格。

The AMC program helps America’s educators identify talent and encourage a love of mathematics through classroom resources and friendly competition. The AMC program positively impacts the analytical skills needed for STEAM education in college, not to mention in the competitive careers of the future. 

美国数学竞赛（AMC）由美国数学协会主办，旨在通过提供课堂资源和促进良性竞争，激发学生对数学的兴趣以及他们在该领域中的潜力。参加这项竞赛对熟悉大学的STEAM教育和踏入未来充满竞争的行业都具有积极影响。

The competitions are a series of examinations and curriculum materials that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in high school students. This year, St. Bede’s 9 participants were among over 300,000 students from 4,000 schools to compete in the competition series.

AMC以竞赛形式为契机，增加高中学生的数学知识储备和培养他们的问题解决能力。今年AMC竞赛共有超过三十万名参赛者，来自4000所学校，其中包括了圣彼得的9名学生。

To prepare, students met with Mrs. Morrow (head of the Mathematics department) for several study sessions after school. In these sessions, they were able to practice working through problems and brainstorm for ways to improve their performance. When test day came, the students were supervised as they completed the 75 minute test on their chromebooks.

为了以更好的状态迎接竞赛，参赛的学生们利用放学后的时间与数学系主任Mrs. Morrow进行了几次学习小组会议。在这些会议中，他们能够练习解题，并共同讨论提高表现的方法。竞赛当天，学生们在电脑上完成了为时75分钟的数学测试。

For this being the first time any of these St. Bede students participated in the competition, they did very well on the test. It is an incredibly competitive contest, so unfortunately none of the students moved on to the next round. However, they gained valuable insight into the process and they will all have the opportunity to compete again next year with experience on their side.  

对于这些圣彼得学生来说，他们是首次参加这项比赛，表现得也非常出色。虽然今年未能晋级，但是他们勇于参赛的精神值得被认可，参与竞赛本身就是一种宝贵的学习经历。通过面对复杂的数学问题，学生们锻炼了逻辑思维和数学技能，提高了自己的数学水平。此次竞赛还强调了团队协作和集体学习的重要性。学生们在老师的辅导下共同学习，相互讨论解题方法，共同进步。这种合作和集体学习的氛围不仅在竞赛中发挥作用，而且会对学生未来的学业生涯产生积极的影响。
