St. Bede institutes many programs to help students in all parts of their lives. While education through the school’s curriculum is crucial, learning and growing certainly does not stop there. Part of the school’s mission statement references “preparing students for college and for life by welcoming them into a community of learning.” St. Bede knows that for students to be successful, they must feel like they are part of a safe, welcoming community. This idea can also be found in the school’s motto: “Where You Belong.”

To help further this idea of a welcoming community, St. Bede hosts “NET Days” for Freshmen and Sophomores. For a whole school day, each entire grade-level attends a “retreat” in the gym. The event is led by a group of young people who advocate for positive, interpersonal connections. These leaders are recent high school graduates who run whole-group and small-group activities for the students to participate in. The goal is to have students engage in entertaining activities all while talking about faith and values. Some of the activities included ice-breakers, name-games, card games, physical games (like basketball, volleyball, keep-away) and creative activities like writing and art.

为了进一步弘扬友善融洽的社区理念，圣彼得举办了面向九年级和十年级学生的“NET Days”活动。各年级都会聚集在体育馆参加这个维持一天的活动。活动由最近的高中毕业生领导，作为过来人，这些毕业生了解维持积极人际关系的重要性。他们负责组织全体和小组活动，供学生参与。活动的目标是让学生参与有趣的活动，同时交流分享心得。一些活动包括破冰活动、纸牌游戏、体育游戏，以及写作和艺术等创意活动。

The main idea is to have leaders who are closer to the students’ age than the rest of the faculty and staff. Because of this, they are able to connect with the students and bring a fresh perspective on the challenges of being teenagers and young adults. The kinds of topics they discuss throughout the day include things like maintaining personal value systems, building healthy relationships, the pressures on young people, and strategies to cope with and manage stress, among others.

While students are always excited to have activities outside of the classroom on a school day, they had a great experience getting to meet some new leaders. Most importantly, they were all able to share about themselves and get to know more about each other, which strengthens their sense of belonging in this community.
