Winter at St. Bede Academy is a very unique experience. The size and the location of the campus combined with the presence of the boarding program create interesting and valuable opportunities for students and faculty. Even after the holiday season has ended and second semester has begun in its regular routine, there is still a great deal to do and see outside of the school day.

The campus itself provides a beautiful landscape where students can explore and play. The school is also located very near to a State Park, where the boarding program also provides frequent visits on the weekends to hike and enjoy nature.

For a boarding program trip this month, all the students and boarding parents drove about 1 hour south to spend a day in Bloomington, IL. This area is home to multiple universities and has many amenities. Before the trip, students got to choose a meal from a restaurant called Windy City Wieners, which has Chicago-style hot dogs and burgers. The restaurant was closed to the public and only opened for St. Bede students to have lunch. After, the students went to Bloomington Ice Arena for open-skate ice-skating. Students were able to rent skates and participate as much or as little as they like, as an open-skate allows for all ages and ability levels. Those who didn’t want to participate were able to hang out in the snack lounge area. The number of smiles was countless!
